Mala Beads

Mala beads are used in meditation and prayer.   "Mala" simply means "garland" or "wreath."  As you repeat each mantra or other form of sadhana, it allows you to concentrate on your meditation, rather than being conscious of how many times you have repeated it.   The most common form of Mala's have 108 beads.   100 for the mantras and 8 for to be dedicated to all sentient beings.
